Got a call from my car insurance company's "Total Loss department." This doesn't sound good.
-
@gomerx Yeah, that doesn't. One of the insurance cos should pay "replacement value", but for an older car, that won't to _replace_ it.
-
They pay resale value, but that's not what it's worth to me. I still haven't got ahold of them though, so I could be worried for no reason.
-
That happened to my car. Do I miss the car? Not too much since public transport is fairly convenient where I stay.
-
I do need to walk and ride my bike a lot more. Here it's hard to get most places without a car, though. Public transport is nearly zero.
-
Well, they totaled it, but I'm getting $1000 more than my highest estimate. I suppose it will have to do.
-
@gomerx This is a difference I've noticed often that in the US the infrastructure is much more dependent on everyone having a car? True?
-
@sazius true overall, although certain cities are pedestrian/transit friendly
-
@gomerx I just got a deja vu that we've discussed this topic before. But anyhoo :-)
-
Yes. There are places that value walkability, and inner cities have public transport. Mostly it's all about cars, though.
-
Yes. I think when you went to DC you remarked how impossible it is to get around on foot her.
-
@gomerx yes, now I remember :-) Centre DC was no problem, but outside you got weird looks if you wanted to walk two blocks back to hotel :-)
-
@parlementum I love walking! I walk to work ~30 mins every day (unless it's raining). And visiting new places you see much more that way!
-
@sazius indeed!
-
@parlementum (actually 1h every day since it's there and back again ... :)
-
I think patience and good legs are both things I need more of.
-
Most days during the summer I'm out walking for anywhere from 2-4 hours. I used to run, too.
-
@patrickniedzielski That used to be me as well. Now my range is much diminished but I keep at it. #NotedPedestrians of the world unite!
-
It's the best way to clear your mind, no?
-
@patrickniedzielski precisely, exactly, and spot on.
-
@patrickniedzielski When I was your age, walking was how I delt with anger. 2-4 hours was not unusual.
-
@patrickniedzielski 40 years later, I still walk up to 2 hours a day, but now it is because I enjoy it and I need the exercise.
-
It's wonderfully calming. It's much better than saying something one'd later regret, I think.
