I finally got a good install on my Mac at work. Your acount has to have admin privileges to install and run rails.

I'm learning Ruby at codecademy.com. I like a lot of things about it. Modern, object oriented but it makes simple things simple like Perl.

Installing it works just fine, but when you try to use it, it explodes with missing dependencies.

I may start over and try again. Once you've used the Ruby Gem system to install stuff though, it's hard to start over.

Yes. The cost of reproducing those bits just keeps going up.

Finally gave up on getting Ruby on Rails working on Debian last night. I've got one more OS to try then I'm done. Too many hours invested.

I used this thing called "Homebrew" which downloads and installs packages. I don't know where it gets the packages.
